Soit un ensemble de 96 dessins différents tirés en héliogravure. Reliure de l'époque demi-maroquin rouge à la bradel, dos lisse, auteur et titre dorés. Reliure signée E. CARAYON. Excellent état. ALBUM UNIQUE CONSTITUÉ DE TIRAGES A PART DE L’INTÉGRALITÉ DES ILLUSTRATIONS DU VOLUME (à l'exception des illustrations de couverture, du faux-titre et du titre, qui n'ont pas été rassemblées ici). SUPERBE ILLUSTRATION D’EUGÈNE COURBOIN. Ce volume a été publié sous la direction artistique d'Octave Uzanne et achevé d'imprimer le 25 octobre 1891. L'édition a été tirée à 1.050 exemplaires dont 1.000 exemplaires sur papier vélin de cuve (avec 50 ex. sur Japon). Les dessins ont été héliogravés sur cuivre pat Th. Fillon et tirés en taille-douce par Lemercier. Il s'agit ici d'un album unique constitué vraisemblablement soit par un amateur, soit par l'imprimeur Quantin ? soit par une personne proche de l'illustrateur (Uzanne ?) ou autre. Il contient donc 103 tirages, tous en noir sur vélin de cuve (le même papier que le tirage définitif), dont 7 tirages photographiques sur papier citraté ayant servi au tirage en photogravure définitif (héliogravures). Ces tirages photographiques n'étant par nature (étant peu stable dans le temps) jamais conservés. Par ailleurs, il faut constater que le tirage à part des illustrations de Courboin permet de voir certaines illustrations dans leur ensemble quand le tirage définitif avec le texte autour en occulte une partie souvent non négligeable. La page 2 de cet album (qui correspond à la page 2 du livre) est composée avec le texte contrecollé, justifié, prêt à être photographié pour la photogravure définitive (voir photo). Ensemble unique. Un cas de rupture a été publié par Alexandre Dumas fils en 1854. "Un Cas de rupture. Il fut écrit pendant un séjour... forcé de l'auteur dans la prison où l'on enfermait les gardes nationaux qui avaient oublié leurs billets de garde, vous savez bien, le fameux « Hôtel des Haricots ». On y lit des variations — qui ne rappellent en rien Silvio Pellico — sur le régime cellulaire; c'est enlevé de verve. Alexandre Dumas fils, cependant, n'autorisa jamais la réimpression de cette fantaisie — ou du moins il ne l'a autorisée que très tard, il y a deux ans, quand la maison Quantin entreprit de faire du Cas de rupture une publication artistique — un peu encombrante et d'un format bors de proportion avec la donnée de cette bluette."
