Mainly through the work of F. Bacon (but also amongst others through I. Beeckman's diaries) this volume sets out to examine the evolution that classical atomism (especially that of Lucretius) underwent in seventeenth century thought. It is thus seen how cultural tendencies, in which roots of a new scientific idea are commonly sought after, suffer the effect of language and expression modified by renewal and reinvigoration of atomistic rules. 789 gr. 434 p.
