An early edition of this influential medical treatise on prolonging life by Francis Bacon a sought after work by the important Tudor figure. In the original Latin.Register runs as -6 A-Q6 R4 T-Nn6 Oo10. Collated lacking leaves R5-R6 and gathering S a total of eight leaves from pages 271 to 286Francis Bacon's medical treatise in which he ruminates on life and death. The text offers Bacon's advice illustrating how to life a long and healthy life as well as practicing healthy habits. Some of Bacon's advice was natural and generally accepted though he also offers experimental observations. Across the essays Bacon offers advice on herbs medicines food drink sleep exercise bathing hygiene climate blood letting and more.The subject of prolonging life was close to Bacon's heart - he saw this is one of the main objectives and highest goals of his new science.An early edition this work was first published in 1623. In a contemporary vellum binding. Externally binding is discoloured with some marks as is usual with a vellum binding. Light bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. A small amount of loss to the tail of the spine. Rear endpaper is adhered to the rear paste down. Internally firmly bound. Pages are age-toned and generally clean with some spots.
