8vo., with decorative title and pictorial endpapers; early series binding of maroon full leatherette, upper board blocked in gilt, gilt back, gilt top, radial corners, ribbon marker, backstrip chipped at tail else a very good, bright, clean copy. The most elaborate of the four original binding styles, full leatherette was introduced at the commencement of the series and discontinued around 1919 (see Seymour pp.103). Due to the delicate nature of the material, really bright, crisp copies are now genuinely elusive. SCARCE IN THIS CONDITION. EL 10; Seymour 46.0.
8vo., First Edition thus; original series de luxe binding of full maroon leatherette, upper board elaborately blocked and lettered in gilt to an art deco design, back gilt extra, gilt top, radial corners, pictorial endpapers, marker ribbon, a near fine copy. SOLE APPEARANCE THUS IN EVERYMAN. The EL full leatherette binding (1906-c.1917) faithfully reflects the art deco movement of the period. By far the most elegant of all the EL series bindings, it is notoriously fragile and seldom found in bright, sound state as here. VERY SCARCE IN THIS CONDITION. EL 10; Seymour 46.0.

8vo., First Edition, with frontispiece (original tissue guard present) and plates; free endpapers and half-title lightly browned; original red cloth, sides framed in blind, gilt back, uncut, a remarkably bright, clean, crisp copy. 'Captain Bacon may be described as a typical Territorial officer, but it must be added that he is a lucky one. He went to India at the beginning of the War, and to Palestine in early 1917 where he took part in the Third Battle of Gaza and the operations leading to the capture of Jerusalem. The standard history of the legendary naval force, charged with safeguarding the Channel throughout WWI. Written by the commander who led it during most of the critical period of the war, but who was superseded for political reasons before the great operations he had planned (the mine-barrage and the attack on Zeebrugge) could come to fruition. Seconde édition qui contient, outre l'"Analyse", "La Vie de François Bacon" (tome I, p. 1-199), adaptation par Pouillot de "The Life of Francis Bacon" de David Mallet ; "Essai sur la reine Elisabeth" traduction de "Felix memoria Elizabethae" dû à Francis Bacon et "Eloges du chancelier François Bacon". Collaborateur à l'Encyclopédie, lié à Diderot, Rousseau, Condillac, proche de Montesquieu, Deleyre fut élu député montagnard à la Convention. Cette minutieuse étude sur la philosophie de Bacon contribua, dès la première édition (1755), à propager les doctrines du philosophe anglais et à asseoir sa notoriété auprès des hommes des Lumières. Naigeon inséra cette étude à l'article "Bacon" du "Dictionnaire de la Philosophie" de l'Encyclopédie méthodique Panckoucke. Quelques infimes accrocs à la reliure. Très bon exemplaire, frais, bien relié.
