Holt during this period this one printed for Henry Herringman and to be sold at Timothy Childe."To this edition is added the character of Queen Elizabeth; never before printed in English".Rebacked in full stamped calf with raised bands. Though Bacon considered the Essays "but as recreation of my other studies" he was given high praise by his contemporaries even to the point of crediting him with having invented the essay form.
