Please inquire for others.<br/><br/>Based on a story by Cheavens source author of "Penny Serenade" 1941. Tessa Baxter leads an impoverished family holding a dinner for a soldier returning from war. They don't receive the soldier they expected and the charming stranger Sgt. Eric Hodiak quickly involves himself. The film was reprised for radio by Lux Radio Theatre in 1945 with original starring actors performing.<br/><br/>Shot on location in Florida.<br/><br/>8 x 10 inches one slightly larger two single-weight glossy and one double-weight matte. Undated title page 43pp. 1pp. to the reader p. 13 and 14 misnumbered 21 and 22. p. 19 and 20 misnumbered 27 and 28. This 5th edition was published after the author's death by his personal secretary William Rawley Doctor Divinity one of his Majesties Chaplaines. Hereunto is now added an alphabeticall table of the principall things contained in the whole worke. This work is an anthology of one thousand paragraphs consisting of extracts from many books mostly from antiquity and Bacon's own experiments and observations. It is fascinating as it contains numerous passages dealing with medical treatments for the prolongation of life and the preservation of flesh. At the end of the volume Rawley also included the New Atlantis. A Worke unfinished. Bacon was a scientist politician philosopher attorney general member of Parlement author etc. . He was also appointed Lord Chancery of the High Court but he had become best known for his promotion of the scientific method. He was knighted upon James I's ascension to the British throne. A handsome copy bound in 19th century 3/4 polished calf over cloth raised bands with title gilt portrait frontispiece and engraved title page had been mounted top edges of leaves were closely trimmed a bit frontispiece and title page have finger soiling text clean without foxing and beautifully printed. The present edition was as Willems puts it "exécutée" at Leyden by Hackius for Elzevier; some examples bear Elzevier's imprint and some Hackius's. While Bacon would be well educated in his early years as the youngest son in his family he would be left without land money or position upon his father’s death in 1579. However thanks to his tremendous intellect and political skills he would have a very successful political and intellectual career and would prosper under James I. Among his many accomplishments would be obtaining the post of attorney general but bribery charges would bar him from ever holding public office again. He would publish a good deal in his later years and legend suggests that his intellectual curiosity would eventually cost him his life when he caught chill after experimenting with the impact of cold temperatures on decaying meat.
