Februar 1848 in Heidelberg studierte und promovierte hier 1871 und vervollständigte seine Ausbildung in Berlin Traube Frerichs und Wien Hebra Kaposi Schrötter. Von 1872 bis 1876 Assistent Friedreichs habilitierte er sich 1872 an seiner Alma mater für innere Medizin 1876 a. o. Professor und übernahm 1886 als o. Professor die Medizinische Klinik in Dorpat mußte jedoch schon 1887 wegen Kehlkopftuberkulose seine Lehrtätigkeit aufgeben. Einige Jahre praktizierte er im Winter in Ospedaletti und San Remo im Sommer in Badenweiler und ließ sich 1893 in Wiesbaden nieder wo er am 2. Juli 1916 starb. Weil beschäftigte sich unter anderem eingehend mit der physikalischen Diagnostik Arbeiten auf dem Gebiet der Pathologie der Lungen und Bronchien Pathologie und Therapie des Typhus abdominalis und beschrieb eine hereditäre Form des Diabetes insipidus Virchows Arch. 1884 Bd. 95 S. 70. Sein Hauptverdienst erwarb er sich durch die Entdeckung und Beschreibung der später nach ihm benannten WEIL'schen Krankheit Dtsch. Arch. klin. Med. 1886 Bd. 39 S. 209. Weil der nach seiner Erkrankung der wissenschaftlichen Tätigkeit entsagte publizierte u.a.: "Die Gewinnung vergrößerter Kehlhopf Spiegelbilder" Heidelberg 1872 "Die Auscultation der Arterien und Venen" Leipzig 1875 "Handbuch und Atlas der topographischen Perkussion" ib. 1877 . She acquired her first camera in the winter of 1896 - 1897 and according to her own account established a portrait studio within two months. Among the photographic exhibitions in which she participated were the Philadelphia salons of 1898 - 1900 the London salons of 1898 - 1901 and the American Institute exhibitions of 1898 - 1899. Three of Weil's photographs were seen in the inagugural exhibition of the Photo-Secession in 1902 at the National Arts Club.
