1900c716jLongmans Green and Co 1900. Hardcover. Fair/No Jacket. 2nd edition. A fair copy for its age. The boards are very shelf rubbed edge worn and marked with the corners and edges torn and frayed. Despite this the boards remain solid and square. Internally there is an ex-libris plate under the front board and an ink marking on the half title page. The early pages are quite tanned but there are no other markings or inscriptions and the pages within are neat and complete. The binding remains secure. JK. The first edition. Very scarce. Illustrated with a monochrome frontispiece vignettes and three monochrome plates. Collated complete. This work was written by Joseph Hemingway and provides a directory to the city of Chester. The work described the city and its market towns as well as discussing its history and antiquities. In the original publisher's cloth. Externally sound with marks to the boards and spine bumping to the extremities front joint tender cockling to the rear fading loss to the tail corner of the title to the front board and minor loss to the cloth to the head of the spine. Front hinge held by cords with scattered spotting to the endpapers and tidemarks to the tail corners to the rear. Internally binding tender in places. Pages lightly age toned with spotting and tidemarks to the pp. 219 - iv. Good T. Griffith hardcover

Neatly rebacked retaining nearly all of spine and front panel; some spotting and smudging to preliminaries; but a very decent copy of a book with an interesting history. 8vo. This copy belonged to Clarence Hemingway the father of Ernest and has his ownership signature and the date June 13 1890 on the front free endpaper. It is easy to imagine that Ernest Hemingway spent many hours with this book. Rand McNally, hardcover
181369486New York and Paris June 18 - August 13 1935. The cloth of one of the checkbooks has small areas of damage; otherwise fine. Various sizes. Hemingway did not keep a running balance but his recording of expenditures is thorough and fascinating. The amounts paid for traveling expenses cash withdrawn salaries groceries subscriptions telegrams insurance loans and support and deposits from Scribner's Esquire Pauline's trust fund and others are recorded in the New York checkbooks. The French checkbook records payments for antelope licences and a bear permit Bumby's trip to Chicago liquor wages and loans etc. hardcover
