Three works in one volume: Lalanne’s Exposé de Deux Méthodes in the original wrapper inscribed to a French soldier; the scarce first edition of Renan’s important 1882 lecture: Qu’est-Ce Qu’une Nation; and the second edition of Armenian Popular Songs in English and Armenian. The first work is complete as issued in the original printed wrapper: pp. 36 with two folded plates at the back. Inscribed by Lalanne a noted mathematician and engineer to “Lieutenant Caillard†on front wrap and title page; the second work is bound in without the wrapper beginning with the half-title leaf: pp. 4 30; the third work lacks the title page: pp. 83 1 index. Octavo. Bound in contemporary quarter leather and marbled paper over boards spine lettered in gold marbled endpapers edges sprinkled red. Later owner’s name in ink on verso of front free endpaper and contemporary small owner’s name in ink on front wrap of the first work.
