Scott Moncrieff. This work follows high society in France during the end of the 19th century and early twentieth century. In the publisher's original quarter cloth with paper to the boards. Externally smart with handling marks and slight rubbing to the paper to the boards. Bookseller's label to the front free endpapers. Internally firmly bound with clean and bright pages. A hardcover book in very good condition with the scarce dustjacket in good condition. The jacket shows chipping of a quarter-inch at the crown of the spine affecting the lettering in the author's name. There are just a few bits of edgewear along the top of the back panel. A scarce edition issued during the Great Depression and particulalry scarce in the dustjacket. The book is clean and tight but the front hinge was starting and has been neatly reinforced with archival tape. The Uniform Edition was the first attempt to issue the various volumes of Proust's masterpiece A LA RECHERCHE DU TEMPS PERDU in their English translations in a popular and inexpensive format. This particular effort failed and it ended up being the Modern Library edition which made Proust more widely distributed. Albert & Charles Boni hardcover
