The family and spiritual background of this stormy petrel are given for the first time and also why he left South Africa and did not stay and fight. But there is plenty of variety in this fine collection of essays. For excitement there is the full story of the Fordsburg Battle during the 1922 Rand Revolt which the author saw at first hand and the trial and hanging of Taffy Long which sweeps you along with its drama.
