Amantine Lucile Aurore Dupin (1804-1876), was best known by her pseudonym George Sand. She was a French novelist and memoirist, but is equally well known for her much publicized romantic affairs with a number of artists, including the composer and pianist Frederic Chopin and the writer Alfred de Musset. Consuelo was first published serially in 1842-1843 in La Revue Independante, a periodical founded in 1841 by Sand, Pierre Leroux and Louis Viardot. It was called Sand's masterpiece. PAIMP 22
