Title on spine of chemise and front cover of the paper binding. chemise has a crack on the front hinge but still holding. Slipcase has a four inch crack along the top hinge. He is associated with neo-romanticism and is best known for his play Cyrano de Bergerac. Rostand's romantic plays provided an alternative to the naturalistic theatre popular during the late nineteenth century. Includes a bookplate from the private library of one Lesley Lewis and bound in original paper wraps. In French. In a half morocco binding with marbled boards. Externally very smart with some rubbing and wear to the spine and a mark to the front board. Internally firmly bound and clean with some age toning.
