Signed by the author and artist Pierre-Yves Trémois. Twenty-two engravings mixing various techniques including etching aquatint and sugar feather of which 15 are double-page spreads. Title on spine of chemise and front cover of the paper binding. chemise has a crack on the front hinge but still holding. Slipcase has a four inch crack along the top hinge. The edges of the paper have very mild toning. A lovely production. Atelier Lacourière-Frélaut unknown

A most pleasing and innovative design. Silk light olive green doublures top edges gilt. No. 40 of only 180 copies on “Japon†paper. Original green color illustrator card wrappers bound-in at the end. From the estate of Edmond Roze a copyist's version in typewritten and manuscript pages with multiple notes marginalia corrections additions bound in half cloth and marbled boards approximately 150 pp. Roze 1878-1943 was a theatre impresario director actor and stage manager. The premier of this play featured a set designed by Georges Barbier. Some of the additions are undoubtedly in Rostand's hand others are by Roze. Rostand was the son of Edmond Rostand and was openly homosexual a friend of Jean Cocteau and an author of poems novels and plays. hardcover

The 24 fine costume plates here are coloured by Jacomet et compagnie.<br />The commission for Casanova was an important moment in Barbier's artistic career leading to commissions with theatres the Ballet Russes and the Folies Bergère. Other successes followed and for a time he was the most sought-after costume designer in Paris recognized as the theatrical artist 'who better than any other had captured the mood of the age' Gordon Ray.</p><p>4to 245 × 190 mm pp. 4 iv 2. 24 pochoir coloured plates some with gold and silver. A copy of 'Chantecler; Piece en Quatre Actes en Vers' Edmond Eugène Alexis Rostand 1 April 1868 2 December 1918 was a French poet and dramatist. He is associated with neo-romanticism and is best known for his play Cyrano de Bergerac. Rostand's romantic plays provided an alternative to the naturalistic theatre popular during the late nineteenth century. Includes a bookplate from the private library of one Lesley Lewis and bound in original paper wraps. In French. In a half morocco binding with marbled boards. Externally very smart with some rubbing and wear to the spine and a mark to the front board. Internally firmly bound and clean with some age toning. Very Good Indeed Charpentier et Fasquelle hardcover
