Cette parution bi-mensuelle accompagna un vieux projet qui tenait à coeur à Albert Robida;celui de reconstituer le " Vieux Paris "dans l'Ile de la Cité avec ses maisons d'autrefois d'une hauteur d'un étage.A l'occasion de l'Exposition Universelle de 1900,on lui permit de réaliser son rêve,dans lequel il entraina toute sa famille,car meubles,tapis,tissus à l'intérieur tout y était.Il s'entoura des grands écrivains de son temps dont Jules Verne qui décéda quelques années après,d' Henri Lavedan, Adolphe Brisson,François Coppée,Pierre Lotu etc.et rédigea ainsi une double histoire:Celle de Paris à travers les siècles(N°1 époque Gallo-Romaine),avec 3 plans à l'appui et celle des lettres(romaine,caroline,mérovingienn, gothique) à travers une calligraphie adaptée.Là dessus il décida que chaque feuille serait unique et fit fabriquer 14 papiers différents(filigrané à la forme,contenant chiffes de lin et végétaux,papier maïs,pigmenté brun,vert,parchemin fin comme dentelle,bleu filigrané de rose pour l'époque de la Régence,tâché d'une encre rouge qui imita le sang de Marat et celui versé à la Révolution etc. Imprimé d'encres de différentes couleurs assorties au papier et illustré à la plume pour la calligraphie,gravé sur bois pour la suite accompagnant les débuts de l'imprimerie.La réalisation est remarquable .

Imprimé sur divers papiers de luxe de différentes couleurs, qui débuta à l'occasion de la reconstruction du Vieux Paris le long de la Seine pour l'Exposition universelle de 1900, calligraphie à l'ancienne, initiales et vignettes en relief, nombreux auteurs dont Pierre Loti et Anatole France, nombreuses illustrations sur bois. Le deuxième numéro est entièrement illustré par Robida. 1 : Gallo-romain ; 2 : Mérovingien ; 3 : Carolingien ; 4 : Saint-Louis ; 5 : Tour de Nesle (XIVe siècle) ; 6 : Le Moyen Âge sous forme de manuscrits enluminés ; 7 : Rabelais François 1e ; 8 : Henri IV ; 9 : Théophraste Renaudot ; 10 : Molière ; 11 : La Régence ; 12 : Marie-Antoinette ; 13 : L'Ami du peuple ; 14 : Bonaparte. Les couvertures en toile de jute sont assombries et un peu frottées. Il y a des titres dorés et un sceau rouge avec l'écusson de Paris. Il y a des restes de liens en cuir. Elles restent néanmoins attrayantes. Les numéros individuels sont en bon état, propres, avec juste un peu d'usure sur les bords de quelques feuilles. 31cm x 23cm.

Albert Robida 14 May 1848 11 October 1926 was a French illustrator etcher lithographer caricaturist and novelist. He edited and published La Caricature magazine for 12 years. Lavish color illustrations generally full page every other page by Robida of the larger-than-life Gallic Renaissance king remembered for waging war nearly non-stop for having welcomed Leonardo da Vinci to his protection for having acquired the Mona Lisa from da Vinci and perhaps most of all as an ambitious builder most notably of Chambord the immense palatial confection that is a riot of towers crockets and turrets in the Loire Valley and also the largest royal palace based on square footage in France -- larger than Versailles based on this criterion. Condition: Light soiling of the gray cloth here and there especially by rear joint. Some cloth blistering most pronounced by front joint. A tiny pinprick hole of cloth rear cover.
