From 1912 onwards he was one of the four "pillars" of the Nouvelle Revue Française along with André Gide Paul Claudel and Paul Valéry. In 1931 he contributed to a book entitled Marsiho. In this work written in Paris he revealed his true feelings about his hometown Marseille. This limited edition work is not listed in the bibliography presented in his Wikipedia article. Édouard Champion born October 10 1882 in Paris and died February 27 1938 in of Paris was a French publisher-bookseller and writer based in Paris. Édouard Champion took over the management of the house that his father had created and which was famous throughout the world for its scholarly works particularly of interest to the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. He created the collection "The Friends of Edward are the most amiable friends in the world" made up of 166 brochures the first by Maurice Barrès and the last by Henri Massis and whose copies which have become extremely rare are highly sought after by bibliophiles. This work is number 44. Joseph Twadell Shipley August 19 1893 - May 11 1988 was a drama critic and author & editor. He was president of the New York Drama Critics' Circle 1952-1954. Alfred Louis Charles de Musset-Pathay 11 December 1810 - 2 May 1857 was a French dramatist poet and novelist. Along with his poetry he is known for writing the autobiographical novel La Confession d'un enfant du siècle The Confession of a Child of the Century. Musset was born in Paris. An early indications of his boyhood talents was his fondness for acting impromptu mini-plays based upon episodes from old romance stories he had read. Years later elder brother Paul de Musset would preserve these and many other details for posterity in a biography of his famous younger brother. Alfred de Musset entered the lycée Henri-IV at the age of nine where in 1827 he won the Latin essay prize in the Concours général. With the help of Paul Foucher Victor Hugo's brother-in-law he began to attend at the age of 17 the Cénacle the literary salon of Charles Nodier at the Bibliothèque de l'Arsenal. He became one of the first Romantic writers with his first collection of poems Contes d'Espagne et d'Italie 1829 Tales of Spain and Italy. By the time he reached the age of 20 his rising literary fame was already accompanied by a sulfurous reputation fed by his dandy side. He was the librarian of the French Ministry of the Interior under the July Monarchy. His politics were of a liberal stamp and he was on good terms with the family of King Louis Philippe. The tale of his celebrated love affair with George Sand in 1833-1835 is told from his point of view in his autobiographical novel La Confession d'un Enfant du Siècle The Confession of a Child of the Century 1836 which was made into a 1999 film Children of the Century and a 2012 film Confession of a Child of the Century and is told from her point of view in her Elle et lui 1859. Musset's Nuits Nights 1835-1837 traces the emotional upheaval of his love for Sand from early despair to final resignation. He is also believed to be the anonymous author of Gamiani or Two Nights of Excess 1833 a lesbian erotic novel also believed to be modeled on Sand. Outside of his relationship with Sand he was a well-known figure in brothels and is widely accepted to be the anonymous author-client who beat and humiliated the author and courtesan Céleste de Chabrillan also known as La Mogador. Musset was dismissed from his post as librarian by the new minister Ledru-Rollin after the revolution of 1848. He was however appointed librarian of the Ministry of Public Instruction in 1853. On 24 April 1845 Musset received the Légion d'honneur at the same time as Balzac and was elected to the Académie Française in 1852 after two failed attempts in 1848 and 1850. Alfred de Musset died in his sleep in Paris in 1857. The cause was heart failure. One symptom that had been noticed by his brother was a bobbing of the head as a result of the amplification of the pulse; this was later called de Musset's sign. Les Amis d'Edouard paperback
1968017771New York: Darien House Publisher 1968. Unbound. Fair. All the Way With LBJ! .Meanwhile Read the New York Free Press Poster. Darien House Publisher. New York: 1968. Single sheet. 44 ½ by 30 inches. A poster depicting a sketch of President Lyndon Johnson riding a bomb in similar fashion to the scene featuring Slim Pickens in Dr. Strangelove. Presumably a satirical use of Johnson's 1964 presidential campaign slogan juxtaposed against an increasingly unpopular war in Vietnam advertising for the underground newspaper the New York Free Press. It appears the newspaper itself was short lived with Library of Congress records indicating it may have only published in 1968. Artwork by noted artist and illustrator Jean Claude Suares. FAIR condition. Heavy glue stains to the reverse which have bled through to the front leaving many largish areas of faint brownish discoloration along the extremities. Stored rolled with moderate creasing curling and wrinkling. A few smaller spots of darker staining to the poster with minor soiling. Minor bumping and chipping along the edges. Two inch slit in the poster at the upper left corner. Darien House, Publisher unknown

Doctorow's and Jean-Claude Suares' "American Anthem". Magnificent color photographs accompanied by an Essay and running text by one of the greatest writers of our time. "This is a hymn of praise to the beauty of the American continent and the American people. It is a bold effort to compose by means of color photographs a pictorial anthem of the United States from the snapped moments of its self-revealing character. This is a good thing to be doing these days when we seem to be losing our clarity and crystal purpose as the last best hope of mankind" E. L. Doctorow . His unabashed photographic realization of Walt Whitman's "Leaves of Grass" 1855 it is a rather surprising achievement for E. L. Doctorow one of America's fiercest critics when his fellow-Americans get it wrong and lose their way. Doctorow's prose is crisp and elegant in its simplicity. At its best it soars to an eloquence not found elsewhere. An absolute "must-have" title for E. L. Doctorow and photography book collectors. This copy is very prominently and beautifully signed in his full name publication-year dated holiday-occasioned and inscribed in black ink-pen on the half-title page by the author: "To the Packs of Pound Ridge. With love Edgar Lawrence Doctorow XMas 1982". It is signed directly on the page itself not on a tipped-in page. There is no person-recipient named. Pound Ridge is the legendary golf course club of which Doctorow was apparently a member. This title is a great art photography book. As far as we know this is the only such signed-in-full publication-year dated holiday-occasioned and inscribed copy of the First Hardcover Edition/First Printing available online and despite its imperfection some rubbing and handling wear on the cloth covers but it's there is still in fine condition: Every single internal page is clean crisp and bright. None of that however is what makes this copy uniquely collectible: This is the only book we have ever found that Doctorow signed with his full name which until now we thought he never did. A rare one-of-a-kind signed copy thus. 82 photographic plates. Some of the greatest American photographers of our time. A fine collectible copy. SEE ALSO OTHER E. L. DOCTOROW TITLES IN OUR CATALOG.
