Half leather spine and corners over marbled paper boards. 5 raised bands with gilt titling and to 2 compartments and thistle/decoration to the remaining compartments. Gilt a little dulled and some light edge wear/rubbing here and there but overall a most attractive set. Page fore-edges marbled - marbling a little faded - and all volumes/hinges tight. Internally marbled endpapers front and rear. NO Inscriptions. An engraved tissue guarded b/w portrait frontispiece to Volume One - both portrait and guard are lightly tanned as usual particularly the margins/captions - but portrait of Scott is clear. Otherwise internally apart from some foxing to the second plain endpapers front and rear and some very light streaks/patches to the beginning of Volume 12 the text blocks are very clean white and bright. The set looks pretty good on the shelf as well! The First Collected Edition 1820.
