Kipling who is thought to have blamed himself heavily for the death of his son took it upon himself to write a regimental history of the Irish Guards in the Great War as a "monument to his son's service". He lends the full powers of his decadent prose in this rich description of the battlefields and the fighting men who lived and died there. 1996 Sarpedon hardcover
