1937BIBLIO-12267Macmillan and Co. Ltd London Sussex Edition 1937. From the limited edition of 525 sets of which 500 were for sale. Full russet Niger morocco contrasting black-and-gilt title panes on spine handmade paper gilt top other edges untrimmed as issued marbled endpapers royal 8vo. vii-viii 373 2 pp. The Sussex Edition is the finest edition of Kipling's works sumptuously produced and also containing his final thoughts on the text having been revised by Kipling in his last years. Kipling died in 1936 and the edition was published posthumously. Complete sets of the 35 volumes are rare and desirable : only 525 sets were produced and many of these were destroyed when the publisher's warehouse was bombed in 1941. Single volumes such as that offered here are in practice still harder to find : we have a handful only of such volumes. This volume collects together the contents of three of Kipling's "Railway Library" volumes first published at the start of his career in India : Soldiers Three the first collection of the adventures of Mulvaney Learoyd and Ortheris 1888; The Story of the Gadsbys 1888 and In Black and White 1889.
