Prince Henry from his tutor SGW April 1 1914''. The recipient is Prince Henry later Duke of Gloucester third son of George V and the first son of a British monarch to be educated at school. The inscription is probably by one his tutors at St. Peters Court a preparatory school in Broadstairs Kent. A scarce unauthorized first separate edition the story having first appeared in St. Nicholas Magazine for January 1893. The publisher has never been identified but was also responsinble for a similar unauthorized printing in the same year of 'Collah-Wallah and the Poison Stick'. Richards A357. John McGivering summarized the content for the Kipling Society website as follows: "This is an amusing little trifle that might well entertain adults as well as the children for whom it was intended being a fairy-tale with echoes of Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves from The Arabian Nights with a message indicating that the simplest way of doing something is probably the best.
