Set in Central India Mowgli is raised by a pack of wolves and along the way he encounters tiger Shere Kahn Bagheera the panther and Baloo the bear. The Jungle Book also includes other stories such as that of Rikki-Tikki-Tavi a heroic mongoose and Toomai a young elephant handler. The Second Jungle Book Kipling's sequel to The Jungle Book was first published in 1895 it features five stories about Mowgli and three unrelated stories with all but one set in India. Condition: Both books are in very good condition. There is a little bumping and rubbing to the board's tips and minor spotting to the page edges. Christ's Hospital school prize label to each volume to the same pupil. Internally the books are clean bar a very little marginal spotting and the bindings are secure. These two volumes discuss the experiences of the Irish guards from 1914 to 1918. The point of view is the battalions with the assistance of Regimental diaries private letters and documents. In his beautiful way Kipling transports the reader back to that sunny summer of 1914 when the rampant optimism gave way to the horror of the trenches. Kipling lost his son at Loos his remains not identified until 1992. It is his ability to write with power that makes this an eminently readable copy even now in the 21st century. Volume II also contains on pages 217-284 an index appendix A; Officers who were killed; B. NCO's who were killed and C. the award from the Victoria Cross to the many distinguished service medals. A fine set beautifully bound in a modern 3/4 black leather over black cloth raised bands compartments lettered and decorated in gilt top edges gilt endpapers renewed housed within black cloth slipcase.
