One Inc. which took its name from Thomas Carlyle's statement that "A mystic bond of brotherhood makes all men one" was founded in LA in 1952 as a homophile organization with connections to the Mattachine Society. As the first pro-gay journal of its kind it serves as an important source for pre-Stonewall homophile studies. In 1954 the US Post Office declared it obscene leading to a four-year legal battle chronicled in its pages that concluded with a favorable decision as part of Roth vs. United States. Aside from its articles covering topics ranging from the Beatniks and Gay marriage to homosexuality and national security One Magazine also featured poetry and short fiction by numerous prominent authors. Signed at the end and dated June 1920 and 2 "Finale des Choeurs pour un exposition Coloniale. A la mémoire de Joseph Conrad et ses navigateurs" Six pages musical partition in pencil with title and annotations in ink. 350 x 270 mm. Inscribed by Benoist-Méchin to Adrienne Monnier. Before becoming a politicianthe young Benoîst-Méchin tried his hand as a composer. He was not yet 20 years old when he wrote the first piece. At Adrienne Monnier's request he also translated the "Penelope" section of Joyce's "Ulysses" for which he supplied musical notation that Joyce had photographed and used in print. When he was an official in the Vichy government Benoîst-Méchin was able to use his influence to have Sylvia Beach released from internment. <br/><br/> unknown books
197821921ELos Angeles: Paramount Television 1978. Original revised final draft shooting script with color rewrite pages for an unaired episode ‘The Weekend’ written by Joyce Perry and B.W. Sandefur for the television series Having Babies starring Bradford Dillman. This was Dillman’s working script with his extensive notations throughout and with his estate stamp which reads “From the Library of Bradford Dillmanâ€. Bradbound 57 pages dated January 231978. Very good copy with some minor handling. The television series ‘Having Babies’ was based on three television movies with that same title and was eventually renamed ‘Julie Far M.D.’ and starred Susan Sullivan in the title role with Mitchell Ryan Dennis Howard Beverly Todd Ralph Bellamy and Jeff Conaway. Bradford Dillman 1930-2018 was one of Hollywood’s best regarded actors among his peers and the public. He was trained at the Actors Studio under Lee Strasberg and knew James Dean in early television. Dillman rose to sudden fame with his appearance in Richard Fleisher’s film Compulsion 1959 with Dean Stockwell and Orson Welles and continued in movies throughout his career in such films as The Way We Were The Iceman Cometh The Enforcer Sudden Impact Crack in the Mirror Escape From the Planet of the Apes Francis of Assisi Piranha The Swarm etc. A great success in television Dillman appeared in a remarkable number of shows and made for TV movies in a variety of genres including Mission Impossible The Man from U.N.C.L.E. Copy belonging to actor Peter Haskell with his holograph annotations throughout and his shooting schedule laid in. <br/><br/>Mary Ellen Bute's final film and one of the only cinematic adaptations of James Joyce's masterfully complex work of fiction "Finnegans Wake." Shot over a two year period Bute was tasked with transforming Joyce's impenetrable prose without losing any of the work's surreal lyrical essence. The subsequent film maintains the original novel's oneiric style. Bute and her husband Ted Nemeth were longtime collaborators and Nemeth worked as both cinematographer and producer of the film. In 1965 it was honored at the Cannes Film Festival as Best Debut and remains Bute's sole feature length film. <br/><br/>Shot on location in New York City and Dublin. <br/><br/>Brown untitled wrappers.
