The book starts with a conversation between Eugene Ionesco and Verena Heyden-Rumsch in paris in 1987 which has been translated by Barbara Wright. Ionesco has been quoted as saying about this and other plays and writings " My sole concern is the constant attempt to split apart the veil of appearances." In this play which is a journey to the extremities of death has the veil of appearances not been completely split have we not arrived on the other side- the side of truth asks Heyden-Rumsch." No we are caught up in that split." states Ionesco. A wonderful and fascinating look at a modern almost abstract master of modern literature.
