Orientations and From an Antique Land two smart works on the Middle East written by British foreign office notable Ronald Storrs and evolutionary biologist and first president of the Humanists Association Julian Huxley. Published in 1939 and 1961 respectively first published in 1937 and 1954.In the publisher's original paper boards Orientations and original cloth in the original unclipped dust wrapper Antique. Antique contains all eleven monochrome plates and nine colour plates while Orientations contains all eight plates. Collated complete.- Orientations: Storrs shares his great experience across the region while working in the foreign office serving as Oriental Secretary in Cairo the Governor of Cyprus and the Military Governor of Jerusalem during the first half of the twentieth century.This Readers edition was originally not sold to the public and would have been published with commentaries in the Readers Union magazine of the same year. Loose rear joint to Orientations with a small chip to head of spine. Fading to the spine of Orientations and lighter to the extremities. Light knock to the head of Antique spine slight bumping to tail of spine and to extremities of Orientations. Antique dust wrapper is generally bright and clean with slight signs of edgewear mostly to the head and tail of wrapper spine and to extremities signs of browning to rear wrapper with the small odd spot to rear wrapper joint and slight fading to wrapper spine. End papers are bright and clean with minor browning to free end papers of Orientations. Internally firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean with minor age toning.
