Johannes Wilde 1891 - 1970 the Hungarian art historian and teacher was a Keeper at the Kunsthistorisches Museum of Vienna. It was here that he discovered that the hitherto separate paintings by the Italian Renaissance artist Antonello da Messina 1425 - 1479 in the collection "St. Nicolas and a Female Saint" "The Virgin and Child Enthroned" and "St. Dominic and St. Ursula" were all fragments of one altarpiece.
