2022BIBHB0058498212022. Hardcover. New. About The Book : It seemed that a work so meritorious and so widely used especially in the secondary schools of France would be of value to teachers and pupils in American schools. The ability of the author to select significant events in the political and social history of the various nations is notable. Professor Seignobos willingly gave his consent to having the translation made. It was thought best to select material from- both the three volumes and the two volumes in so far as the one supplemented the other. Phrases here and there not regarded as essential to an understanding of the text have been omitted. The tables of contents have been made more usable. An index has been added to each volume and a general bibliography has been prepared for each period. About The Author : Charles Seignobos 1854- 1942 was a French scholar of historiography and an historian who specialized in the history of the French Third Republic and was a member of the Human Rights League. Afterwards he moved to Germany where he studied for two years spending most of his time in Gttingen Berlin Munich and Leipzig. Named to a tenured position as Matre de confrences at the University of Burgundy in 1879 and a professor at the coles des hautes tudes internationales et politiques HEI-HEP he defended his doctoral thesis in 1881 and then was named to a position at the Sorbonne. He is regarded along with his friend the physiologist Louis Lapicque as one of the two founders of the scientific and humanistic community ""Sorbonne-Plage"" at L'Arcouest in Ploubazlanec near Paimpol The Title 'History of Ancient Civilization written/authored/edited by Charles Seignobos Translated and Edited by Arthur Herbert Wilde' published in the year 2022.
