The Introductory Note is by Robert Ross Wilde's executor and relates how the play was lost and then found but incomplete. To complete the play the opening scene was written by Sturge Moore 1870-1944. 19153274<p>A fair to good copy of the scarce 6th edition of Wilde's work being the first edition illustrated by Jessie M King. In the original decorative cloth binding with colour title page 16 tipped-in colour plates and decorative endpapers. The binding is sound and clean but with wear. The front board has a pale mark down the board. The corners and edges are rubbed with some cloth loss and the top corner is bumped. The spine is darkened and cocked to the front. It has rubbing and wear to the spine ends which are faded and to the joints. There are short splits approx 1.5 cm in both spine joints at the bottom and a smaller split just under 1 cm at the top of the front spine joint. The back board has a very rubbed surface with light marking. The top corner is bumped and there is general wear around the edges with some cloth loss. Top page edges gilted. There is an old birthday gift inscription to the verso of the fep and a small ink mark could be 'Jo' to the top of the half title. The free endpapers are lightly toned. Contents with half title decorative title contents and illustration listings pp vi; text pp 162 with 16 tipped-in colour plates and half titles to each story. The contents are generally clean with brown toning towards the page edges which are very browned and the occasional mark. The plate at p 76 has a corner crease and the plate at p 110 has a very tiny inner corner crease which is mostly on the plate border. There is a brown spot in the bottom margin of p 102 mirrored on the plate mount opposite and more brown spots in the bottom margins of pp 103-105 including a plate mount.
