Blue marbled endpapers. This is mixed set combining volumes from the 12th edition of 1826 1st and 3rd volumes and the 6th edition of 1805 2nd volume. The set is complete in three parts. The work is comprised of a series of letters written by various prominent European Jews and on behalf of various Jewish communities both Ashkenazi and Sephardic to Voltaire in defense against numerous written attacks on Jews and Judaism by the famed French writer and philosopher. Table of contents included in all volumes. The 1826 volumes contain additional commentary sections. Text in French.<br /> <br /> Bindings with some light rubbing and chipping to extremities. Covers with some light scratches and abrasions. Interior front cover and front free endpapers of vol.2 with some abrasions light stains and worming. Vol.1 with some light staining along the bottom edge of the book block on the initial pages as well as a drawing in pencil and period notes in ink. Vols. 1 and 3 with the ink stamp of a previous owner at the top of the half-titles. Volumes with some sporadic minor water stains. Book blocks still fairly tight despite a few points of starting along gutters. Bindings and interiors in good to very condition overall. Bindings protected by modern mylar. Half black calf brown paper covered boards spine with gilt bands at the top of the spine is the title and a sun design in gilt. Boards and spine are worn front hinge cracked article glued to the front pastedown alongside remnants of something else that had once been affixed there gift inscription on the front free endpaper and scattered foxing throughout good only.
