Eugène Emmanuel Viollet-le-Duc 1814-1879 war ein französischer Architekt und Denkmalpfleger der sich durch seine Arbeit bei der Restaurierung u. a. von Notre-Dame in Paris und den Kathedralen Amiens und Reims ein umfangreiches Wissen zur mittelalterlichen Architektur aneignete wenngleich seine Restaurierungs-Strategien nicht unumstritten sind. Sein Wissen hat er u. a. im vorliegenden Werk gesammelt und durch chronologische Beiträge zur Antiken und zeitgenösssichen Architektur ergänzt. Beim vorliegenden Exemplar wurde der Atlasband auf 2 Bände aufgeteilt. Die Tafeln sind nummeriert und jew. bezeichent: "E. Viollet Le Duc del." die Ausführung der Stahlstiche stammt von verschiedenen Stechern Sauvageot Gaucherel Gibert etc. Die Farblithographie wurde von der lithographischen Anstalt "Regamey" ausgeführt.
