Translated from the original French by Benjamin Bucknall.Illustrated with nineteen steel engravings including some in colour and ninety-three woodcuts to 'Vol I' and eighteen steel engraving and one hundred and seven woodcuts to 'Vol II'. Collated complete. Includes an invitation to an exhibition of work by Mark Bury. This set features a collection of essays on architecture from Eugene Viollet-le-Duc covering topics such as the construction of buildings and masonry domestic architecture monumental sculptures and more. Eugene Viollet-le-Duc was an influential French architect and author known for restoring many prominent medieval landmarks in France particularly those damaged during the French Revolution. Included among his major works are the restorations of Notre-Dame de Paris the Basilica of Saint-Denis the medieval walls of the city of Carcassonne. He also planned much of the construction of the Statue of Liberty. A two volume complete set. Re-backed in crushed morocco. Externally smart with minor bumping and wear to the extremities of the boards slight scattered damp stains to the rear to 'vol II' and minor marks to the boards. Hinges re-enforced.
