Theocritus was a poet from Syracuse and wrote at the Alexandrian court. He is credited with creating the bucolic genre of poetry. Theocritus' poems feature minor characters from the Odyssey as well as goatherds with a passion for poetry. Favorite themes of the poet include doomed love an individual's zeal for their dreams and art for the sake of art itself. A beautifully bound copy of the Hellenistic poet's work.
