Sienkiewicz (1846 - 1916). Ce roman qui relate la persécution des chrétiens sous Néron a suscité un enthousiasme invraisemblable. Il fut traduit rapidement en plus de 40 langues. En 1900 il fut le roman le plus vendu en France, les chevaux du Grand Prix de Paris ont porté les noms des personnages de Quo Vadis. Il fut adapté au cinéma dès 1901 et encore en 1910, 1912, 1924 jusqu’au fameux peplum de Mervyn Le Roy en 1951 avec Robert Taylor et Deborah Kerr. En 1909 un opéra de Cain et Nouguès a été créé à la Gaité-Lyrique, donné en 1911 au Metropolitan de New York.Exemplaire tel que paru, non coupé, papier jauni.
