Hinton' to the front paste-down. In full cloth binding with gilt lettering. Externally smart with shelf wear to the extremities and some marks to the rear board. Front hinge strained but firm. Bookplate to the front paste-down. Light offsetting to the front paste-down and endpaper. Internally firmly bound. Pages age-toned but otherwise bright and clean. Creasing to page 23. We believe them to be parts of the same edition although the text is dated 1840 whereas the label on the cover of the Outlines is dated 1836. The text pp 16 comprises the title 1 blank 2 The Song of the Bell 3- 8 and Explanations to the Outlines 9-16 marbled wrapper with cloth spine. The Outlines forty-three numbered plates as called for no text are bound in cloth with a cloth strap allowing the text to be held within the cover. The text has moderate browning with some wear to the wrapper . Outlines internally in very good condition with very occasional spotting to the plates endpapers moderately browned cover somewhat worn and label rather dusty. Ucommon Scans available. The book features 16 full-page illustrations by Moritz Retzsch. Decorative cloth binding with gilt illustrations and lettering on the covers and spine and gilt page edges on all sides of the text block. Poets include Goethe Friedrich Schiller Ludwig Uhland and Theodor Korner - please see the photos for the complete list of poems.<br /><br />Condition:<br />Light soiling to the covers; clean spine. Bright gilt lettering and illustrations on the covers and spine. Cloth tears at the cover corners. Cloth tears and small bits of cloth missing at the top and bottom edges of the spine. Tight binding with no cracks and no loose pages. Both covers are firmly attached. Mild foxing to the text pages throughout the book though heavier foxing on the end papers frontispiece and title page. Heavy tanning to the yellow front and rear end papers. The front yellow end paper has a tiny tear at the outer edge. Name/date 1857 written in ink on the half title page. Overall the book is in Good condition.</p> Willis P. Hazard hardcover
