Given his role in the early days of the the new national government and especially his importance after the Republicans took office in 1800 this is a very important collection of papers. He graduated from Harvard University in 1826 and from Andover Theological Seminary in 1829. In 1834 he became pastor of Union Congregational Church Essex Street Church in Boston. He would remain in that position until his death in 1878.
