Includes the memorial address a tribute obituary resolutions of the First National Bank and extract from a letter of Mr. James H. Hamlen to his son. Hamlen was "one of the best known business men of this city" being Portland Maine was appointed by Abraham Lincoln during the Civil War as an allotment commissioner and was a director of the First National Bank of Portland. 48 pages illustrated frontispiece. Book is in very good "plus" condition with just minor marks; slipcase is split on the edges and lacks one edge covering. Privately Printed hardcover

1910005262Japan 1910. Hardcover. Very Good -. 15 x 20 cm. album containing 52 postcards 47 of them hand-colored. Black lacquer boards; front board illustrated with scene of a woman and a man painted in gilt and red. None of the postcards have been used and none have dates of publication. Some of the cards were produced by Tonboya in Yokohama; the firm was actively publishing hand-colored postcards from about 1910 to about 1930. The first postcard is a view of Mt. Fuji with a foreground illustration painted in gilt and black. The next two are portraits of Emperor Meiji and Empress Shoken in black with a gilt emblem above each of their heads. The hand-colored views are of streets scenes temples and parks in Yohohama Kamakura Tokyo Kyoto Nara and Kamata; a number include geishas. There are two views of women in Yoshiwara. A complete list is available on request. In Very Good- Condition: front board is detached and is chipped along the lower edge and upper corners; color is bright on front board; postcards are clean and bright without chipping. hardcover

Faint edgewear only to yapped edges else internally near fine. Large "Lincoln Centennial Association" themed bookplate on front flyleaf not filled in. Program of the third annual banquet of this association printed by the Roycrofters. Reverend Thomas D. Logan introduces J. Otis Humphrey and other speakers -- including President William Howard Taft. A quite nice copy of a delicate booklet whose binding often deteriorates badly. Not the usual garnet or burgundy color seen this copy also features more than the usual four sepia-tone portraits. A collection of articles about Lincoln removed from issues of the Journal by a collectror who had them bound uniquely and securely but a bit roughly. Bindings are solid on all vols except where noted on v. 3. A great number of topics about or related to Lincoln are included.
