br. Per qualche paradosso della storia culturale, dopo Charles Baudelaire e dopo il suo esegeta sommo Walter Benjamin, è toccato ad un belga grande scrittore di genere, George Simenon, il compito di rappresentare la Parigi che si presta a costituire lo sfondo non inerte di accadimenti delittuosi e di sordide esistenze, coerenti con non meno sordidi bistrot e alberghetti. Ma, essendo la metropoli moderna compendio dell'universo, non possono mancare incursioni in quartieri d'alto bordo, dove, pure, il delitto può avere luogo. Il liegino Simenon, attraverso le flâneries investigative dell'immortale commissario Maigret, conduce il lettore ad un pacato esercizio delle aspettative topologiche ed esistenziali. Ma l'occhio esteticamente poco ricettivo di Maigret si avvale della guida decisiva di Marco Vitale che coordina e instrada le frequentazioni del Commissario e i nostri solidali e incuriositi pedinamenti. Scrittura e riscrittura parallela, sempre discreta e illuminante nell'indicare i ritratti d'ambiente, a volte sfuggenti, che fanno di questo libro il viatico necessario e imprevedibile di un lettore viaggiatore non conformista.
