Ma sullo sfondo delirante e minacciosa c'è un'altra donna una vecchia domestica a ore che forse ha visto che forse ha dei sospetti e che potrebbe parlare o ricattarla. Perché tutto sia soffocato perché una greve cappa di silenzio scenda sulle vittime e sui colpevoli e perché ogni cosa il paese come la grande casa dalle finestre sprangate delle Pontreau ripiombi in una calma sinistra il prezzo da pagare sarà altissimo – ma soprattutto occorreranno altre vittime. Con la crudele esattezza che è soltanto sua Simenon ha ritratto una società arcaica e ripiegata su stessa in cui è il potere delle donne a decidere della vita e della morte.</p> Adelphi paperback
