The book is clean and bright with just a little softening at the head and tail of the spine. Overall a near fine copy. In the RARE D/W priced 5s. net to the inside flap as called for. The D/W is a near fine example with a couple of tiny chips and a handful of nicks at spine and flap fold ends; a bit of minor rubbing and soiling; and some faint staining to spine and front panel. The fourth most difficult Simenon after the three Hurst & Blackett's which are virtually impossible to find these days. No U. S. Edition. First Routledge Simenon. Extremely scarce especially in this lovely honest condition. Specialising in Simenon I have only seen three wrappered first editions of this book since the millennium. In the VERY RARE D/W priced 8/- net to the inside flap as called for. The D/W is bright but creased with a short closed tear to the foot of the front panel and head of front flap and tape repair to verso. First edition in English first impression very scarce in D/W. The volume comprises two stories La Danseuse du Gai-Moulin and Un Crime en Hollande both of which were first published in French in 1931. In my experience the scarcest among the first six Routledge volumes. Rare. Scans invited. A much nicer copy than normally seen. Laid in are: a author's postcard sized card signed inscribed and dated 1977 on his Lausanne Switzerland letterhead; and b a 1965 Press photograph of the author on a Winter Sports Holiday at Crans Sur Sierre dated 4-1-65". The first title LES 13 COUPABLES THE THIRTEEN CULPRITS is the exceedingly rare Queen's Quorum 85 and cited in QUEEN'S QUORUM "In 1932 Georges Simenon wrote three books of short stories which the late Alexander Woollcott regarded so highly that he included all three in his recommended library of detective fiction. The best contains the precise and pithy investigations of examining magistrate Froget in LES 13 COUPABLES The Thirteen Culprits. The two other books in the series are LES 13 ENIGMES The Thirteen Enigmas about G.7 and LES 13 MYSTERES The Thirteen Mysteries about armchair detective Joseph Leborgne both issued in 1932 by Artheme Fayard." Each book in this trilogy is a short story collection and only the first in the series has been published in an English translation edition as THE 13 CULPRITS. In 1951 when QUEEN'S QUORUM was first published these volumes were regarded as being rare and during the intervening 57 years they can now be regarded as being exceedingly rare. The first volume has a small bookseller's label on the bottom edge of the front cover and a partial sticker over the original price on the spine else a very good copy. The second volume has light wear to the spine ends and lightly creased on bottom edge of the front cover else a very good copy. The third volume is lightly cocked with light wear to spine ends else a very good copy. All three volumes are housed in a cloth slipcase with titles stamped in black contrast on the spine.
