Some chips or loss to the extreme lower corners of some leaves - possibly some kind of printer's flaw as many remain unharmed. The loss is fairly minjmal and is obviously 'miles' away from the text. First edition of this collection of tales from the first queen of Romania Elisabeth of Wied 1843-1916. Writing as Carmen Sylva Elisabeth gathered legends and folklore from various regions of Roumania and Germany including the Hartz Mountains Black Forest and Saxony. These tales were originally written in German and translated for this volume by British translator and poet Alma Strettell 1853-1939. A scarce and charming publication. George Allen hardcover
