Guillaume Corneille van Beverloo est né en 1922 de parents néerlandais à Liège BE où il passe de nombreuses années de son enfance. En 1943 après un court passage à lAcadémie des beaux-arts dAmsterdam où il trouve lenseignement trop académique il abandonne le cursus classique pour expérimenter et sexprimer librement. La guerre éclate malheureusement et projette son ombre néfaste sur le Monde. Contre toute probabilité et malgré lenfer de la guerre Corneille continue de peindre. À la libération il décide doublier cette période terrible et embrasse la liberté à pleines mains. En 1947 il est invité à exposer ses peintures à Budapest. Il y découvre les uvres de P.Klee et rencontre J. Doucet. De retour aux Pays-bas il crée en 1948 avec K. Appel et Constant lExperimentele Groep Amsterdam et Reflex. Le 8 novembre de la même année en opposition au surréalisme dA. Breton trop théorisant Corneille avec ses deux compagnons hollandais les artistes belges C. Dotremont et J. Noiret ainsi que lartiste danois A. Jorn fonde à Paris le groupe COBRA. unknown
