Cranford was serialized in Household Words by Dickens. Besides known for her books Cranford and North and South she also wrote the biography of her friend Charlotte Bronte along with several other works. A very nice copy bound by E.P. Dutton in 3/4 blue crushed morocco over marbled paper covered boards raised bands gilt compartments decorated in red floral gilt onlays top edge gilt original gilt decorated cloth covers bound in at rear just a bit of fading to spine. 19147921<p>This is a handsome antique copy of "CRANFORD" by Mrs. Elizabeth Gaskell. 1914; Macmillan and Co.; London. With illustrations throughout by Hugh Thomson. This copy has been beautifully custom-bound by ZAEHNSDORF in full leather with seven raised bands and gilt decorations on the spine marbled end papers gilt page edges on all sides of the text block gilt decorations along the outer edges of the inside covers and a gilt border on the front and back covers.<br /><br />Condition:<br />Clean covers and spine. There are a couple tiny chips to the leather at the top and bottom edges of the spine. Tight binding with no cracks and no loose pages. Both covers are firmly attached. Nice interior - the pages are lightly age-toned and clean with no notable issues found. The book has been beautifully re-bound by Zaehnsdorf. Bright gilt page edges on all sides of the text block. Overall the book is in Very Good condition.</p> Macmillan and Co. hardcover
