Heinrich Hoffmann 1809-1894 although a successful psychiatrist is remembered primarily for his children's stories - Struwwelpeter his first book being one of the most famous. While the stories may strike us today as somewhat cruel or overly moral Herr Hoffmann's contemporaries saw the world differently than we and they enjoyed their humour; the stories were so popular they were regularly reprinted and translated into many different languages.
