IMPORTANT NOTE ON THE NUMBER OF VOLUME IN THE SET: Although Parr & Badger cite 27 booklets there is an error in their calculation: There are 5 volumes in the series entitled Kampf im Osten The War in the East; these are numbered 1 through 5. In the end notes of Parr/Badger The Photobook: A History vol. III 'Kampf im Osten' is listed as one title and then each of the subtitles of the five volumes is listed separately making for one extra title. Thus mistakenly the total number of titles as stated in the text and bibliographic description is accidentally bumped up to 27. The actual number of booklets in the set is in fact 26 as shown by pictures on p. 23 of Parr & Badger Vol. 3.<br /> <br /> Included in Parr/Badger The Photobook: A History vol. III. Parr & Badger write "The Winterhilfswerk Winter Relief Fund was an annual fund-raising drive by the Nazis - its slogan 'none shall starve or freeze' - to get Germany through the winter months from October to March. It ran from 1933 to 1945 and was designed to provide food fuel and other items for poorer citizens.As charities do today small gifts were given out to donors.among them was this series of miniature propaganda bookks published by Heinrich Hoffman Hitler's official photographer and approved publisher. They were essentially receipts to show one had donated and with the attached string could be worn on the lapel to make it absolutely clear.Some have intimated that the books were also hung from Christmas trees as decorations although this is not absolutely certain and given as 'stocking-filler' presents.In totalitarian states like Nazi Germany where the leader is seen as the 'Father' of the nation the propaganda machine's ultimate aim is to capture the children indoctrinate them and perpetuate the state ideology.
