Armorial Bookplate Charles Fruen on all front pastedowns. Type size is small but not tiny. Covers visibly scuffed but the set has a nice uniform look on the shelf. Joints and hinges sound Internally nice with just a little age-toning. The set takes up about 68cm 27 inches on a shelf. In half blue morocco with marbled boards and gilt decoration to spine. Externally very smart with visible rubbing to extremities including to head and tail of spine and to joints. George John Whyte-Melville 1821-1878 was a Scottish novelist and former cavalry officer best known for his hunting and military novels. Bound in a full grained calf. Externally very smart. Slight rubbing and bumping to extremities resulting in minor loss to calf. Previous owner's inscription to front free endpaper. slight offsetting to endpapers with one or two spots. Internally firmly bound. Pages bright and clean if typically age toned with the odd spot heavier to firt and last few leaves and fore edge.
