He also established standard forms of English poetry though his satires fables epigrams poems and plays.</p><p>Dryden's work "<em>Mr. Limberham or the Kind Keeper</em>" is a play that after its early performances was considered by many to be a failure as the promiscuous content was unsettling to many of the viewers. The work was written by John Dryden in 1677 & first performed on 11 March 1678. 'The Kind Keeper' closed after only three performances. Dryden later removed 'objectionable material' from his original satire of aristocratic sexual behavior before submitting the manuscript for publication: thus the date of 1680. Macdonald 126; Wing D-2403; ESTC R3993. ◆Binding a little worn with rubbing to joints and extremities a little loss at head and tail of spine and some general soiling otherwise intact and perfectly sound; contents a little browned scattered and mostly light foxing a large but light dampstain across most leaves top margin trimmed a little close other minor imperfections but despite these faults a good copy of a very rarely seen work.<br/> <br/> This is the only dramatic work written by Dryden's second son 1667/8-1701 who also produced a translation of Juvenal and a travel account. The play with a preface by the elder Dryden and an epilogue by Congreve has not appeared in auction records since the 1940s. Printed for J. Tonson unknown

A very good copy. "The break in signatures and pagination is evidently the result of division of copy between two compositors as may be seen by the variation in typography. The second compositor began his portion with the third alphabet. His pagination was intended to correspond but was off by ten for it begins with 721 not 731" Pforzheimer.
