Various publishers. The Diderot Le fils naturel was his first play originally published in 1757 appears here in an early printing and is the second play in this volume published as noted above. Contemporary gilt full calf binding with raised bands. Speckled edges and marbled endpapers. Gilt red label. Some wear to covers at hinges -- still tight -- and to extremities. Some loss to leather at head of spine and upper corner of rear board. Sewn endbands with silk page marker intact. Quite a neat copy -- solid clean and tight. La pièce connut un certain succès lors de sa première représentation en 1789 une année marquée par l'agitation sociale qui allait conduire à la Révolution française. Ce type de comédie musicale qui mettait en scène des personnages du peuple résonnait particulièrement dans un contexte de montée des tensions sociales. Michel-Jean Sedaine aussi connu sous le pseudonyme "M. Marsollier des Vivetières" était un auteur prolifique du XVIIIe siècle célèbre pour ses livrets d'opéras-comiques et ses comédies. Il a travaillé avec de nombreux compositeurs et ses textes se distinguent souvent par un ton léger et sentimental. Dalayrac était un compositeur populaire de l'opéra-comique avec une production importante et variée. Il a collaboré avec Marsollier sur plusieurs uvres et "Les Deux Petits Savoyards" est l'une de leurs collaborations les plus connues.
