2025214832Torino: Allemandi 2025. Hardcover. As New. Large square quarto. Bound in burnt orange cloth with gilt titles and illustration pasted center front. 179 p. : chiefly ill. chiefly col. ; 31 cm. Italian text. With Il tempo sospeso Part II Galleria Mattia De Luca sought to continue the exhibition journey begun with the show "Giorgio Morandi: Il tempo sospeso" Rome 2022 enriching it with a significant second chapter—one that is distinctly American. Set within a historic New York residence—a nineteenth-century townhouse on the Upper East Side adjacent to Central Park—gallerist Mattia De Luca and Marilena Pasquali chose to present the work of the great Bolognese master. In doing so they simultaneously evoked the domestic intimacy of his working environment and the fruitful ties he forged with the United States—connections the artist cultivated during his lifetime beginning in the 1930s and which have remained unbroken ever since. New York was in fact the first U.S. city to dedicate a solo exhibition to him held at the Delius Gallery in 1955. The result of a renewed collaboration with the Centro Studi Giorgio Morandi in Bologna this project aimed to trace the artist’s creative trajectory through a selection of more than sixty works—including etchings watercolors drawings and oil paintings—created between 1914 and 1964. Serving as exquisite variations on the themes of still life and landscape—"orchestrated" by the painter from Grizzana through a masterful command of color and volume—these works offered a significant opportunity for critical comparison and historical reflection. "Acclaimed by some as one of the best portraitists of all time Italian painter Giovan Battista Moroni 1522-1579 created penetrating images of the aristocracy of Bergamo in which the sitters often gaze at the spectator with an unflinching directness. Admired in Italy since the 16th century when Titian is said to have praised his portraits Moroni did not achieve an international reputation until the 19th century and remains relatively little known. This handsome catalog encompasses Moroni's entire career. It includes portraits of all formats and styles demonstrating not just Moroni's brilliance at capturing the elegance of his sitters and the fashions of the time but also his "realistic" representation of Bergamo's society which became a model for Caravaggio. The volume also includes Moroni's religious paintings which also incorporate highly accomplished likenesses of their patrons once again showing the striking psychological insight for which Moroni is acclaimed."--Publisher's description. Contents include: Giovanni Battista Moroni : history and critical fortune / Simone Facchinetti and Arturo Galansino -- Moroni's teacher : Moretto -- Early works -- Aristocratic portraits -- Portraits from nature -- Altarpieces -- Late portraits -- Catalogue entries.
