On first leaf of a bifolium the second leaf of which carries the wafer and address to ‘Mr / at / Hurst & Robinson / 90 Cheapside’. In good condition lightly aged with folds for postage and strip of tape from mount adhering to the second leaf. Signed ‘William Maginn’. The name of the recipient is not clear either beneath the signature on in the address. Begins: ‘Knight presumably the publisher Charles Knight 1791-1873 has not yet published the book which I have of course only by his sufferance in sheets. I fear that a review of it before publication would be considered a breach of faith.’ He explains that he has ‘all the materials ready for a review’ which he could complete ‘at a day’s notice’. He must however ask ‘Knight.’ when it is to be published. Concludes: ‘Any other work I could review I shall gladly engage in.’ ‘Friday’: no place or date. unknown

American News Company was a magazine, newspaper, book, and comic book distribution company founded in 1864 by Sinclair Tousey, which dominated the distribution market in the last quarter of the 19th century and the first half of the 20th century. The company's abrupt 1957 demise caused a huge shakeup in the publishing industry, forcing many magazine, comic book, and paperback publishers out of business. NW62

A View of Old London as it Appeared in 1560. has no author credited and was published in 1851. 44pp with folding engraved panoramic view of London in 1560 as frontispiece plus 17 engravings in text 3 of them whole page. The second book is London Before the Fire of 1666 with an Historical Account of the Parish the Ward and the Church of St. Giles without Cripplegate by William Miller published in 1867. 92pp. With folding engraved illustration as frontispiece. The third book is Sketches of the Tower of London as a Fortress a Prison and a Palace and a Guide to the Armories. No author credited. 48pp. With folding engraved plan of the Tower as frontispiece and engraving on title page. A Good copy overall. Covers are very good with light wear to edges. The contents are well bound. Heavy browning to endpapers most pages clean though the third book has some browning with the title page and frontis heavily browned and with some tears to edges. Horatio Hastings Weld (1811-1888) was an American author, newspaper editor and minister.[1] In 1845 he became an Episcopal minister. Weld was born in Boston, Massachusetts in 1811. In 1845, Weld was ordained a minister in the Episcopal Church. He would serve as rector of St. James Episcopal Church of Downingtown, Pennsylvania, Trinity Church of Moorestown, New Jersey and Christ Church of Riverton, New Jersey. Weld's books include The Women of the Scriptures (1848); Life of Christ (1850); and Sacred and Poetical Quotations (1851). Weld worked with several publications, include the Brother Jonathan and the short-lived Evening Tattler in New York City. Weld died in Riverton in 1888. NW51
