1926ABE-12919363977Bodley Head London 1926 Hulme Beaman's charming illustrations are being eagerly collected and here is a classic example in collectable condition. Alas no jacket. but no abuses either. So often the drawings are coloured in or the coloured full page illustrations are removed! This was a children's book so it is hardly surprising much loved books get folded dropped or written in. This one is clean and tight the corners are not damaged and the only fault - if it is a fault - is a discreet blind stamp from a former owner. Apart from that this is a good clean copy of the first printing. It is a collectable book inside a protected jacket and with a brilliant unmarked binding. . 1st Edition. Hardcover. It has a slight crease on the stiff card wrap but otherwise it is Near Fine. I was lucky to see this brilliant exhibition and it is typical of the Grolier Club to produce so thorough a work. Written before the absurd puritans attacked this gentle mathematician it has a proper respect for the man who gave the world such enchantment. Clean and tight without inscriptions or marginal notes this is collectable. 1st Edition. Soft cover. Near Fine. Grolier Club paperback

2022ABE-1677168016274Hazel Press England 2022 An exquisite book. The twelve gorgeous photographs by Norman McBeath are accompanied by a text by De Waal. The musical term perdendosi almost always comes at the end of a piece and directs sound rhythm and tone to gradually fade and die away. After the leaves have fallen we return To a plain sense of things wrote Wallace Stevens. Perdendosi is a collaborative work by photographer Norman McBeath with ceramicist artist and writer Edmund de Waal. It is a study of leaves at the stage of their transformation when they have lost all colour and become more like parchment than plant taking up the most extraordinary shapes giving the leaves unique identities and character. Many of the photographs were taken at the start of the pandemic in a time of daily news of increasing deaths and infections. Although not a direct response this time had a profound influence on how Norman McBeath saw the leaves. Edmund de Waal s accompanying text Twelve Leaves which he describes as both autobiography and a journal of reading is his own unique and moving response to living with these images for several months during lockdown. With a heightened awareness and increased sensitivity towards the natural world Perdendosi offers a fresh perspective on the familiar. The book is bound in French flaps and the entire production has been carefully done to limit any environmental harm. Printed at The Lavenham Press Suffolk. This production will never be a best seller of course; that is not its purpose. But it is in its small way a gorgeous and quietly aesthetic book. 1st Edition. Soft cover. New/New. Hazel Press England paperback
