Deren Gestaltungsprinzip eines geistreichen Wechselspiels zwischen Text und Bild, das seit dem Grundungswerk der Gattung ??“ Andrea Alciatos ???Emblematum liber??? (Augsburg 1531) ??“ in den gelehrten Humanistenzirkeln der fruhen Neuzeit als kunstvolles Mittel der Weltdeutung immer weiter verfeinert wurde, nutzt DE RERVM VSV ET ABVSV in vollig neuer Weise zur Auseinandersetzung mit einem sehr konkreten Problem, dem richtigen bzw. falschen Umgang mit dem irdischen Besitz. Die Analyse des Emblembuchs fuhrt Coornhert als einen Kunstler vor Augen, der sich fur seine Argumentation zur richtigen Verwendung des irdischen Besitzes des gesamten Repertoires antiker Topoi, christlicher Exempla, humanistischer Allegorie, aber auch sehr volkstumlicher Sprichworte souveran bedient. Die Quellen fur die Texte und Bilder liegen in der niederlandischen Tradition und sind gepragt von einer Rhetorik, die aus der moralisierenden Bildkultur hervorgegangen ist.
